Abstract

[Class 59] [See also Group I] A machine for hulling coconuts and the like comprises a main frame 5 carrying vertical standards 8 acting as guides for reciprocating beams 10, 12, 16 actuated by cams 13 in a cam disc carried by a shaft 34. The beams 10, 16 carry removable cutting elements 14, 15 respectively each cutting element comprising a series of blades 17 shaped to form nut-receiving pockets 18, 19. After a nut has been cut or split by the movement of the knives towards each other, stripper elements 35 are moved to follow the upper blades into the split hull and then to move radially outward to tear the hull from the kernel. Each stripper comprises a lever 49 pivoted on the beam 12, having a spring seat 50 and carrying a stripping member 51 at its lower end ; each stripping member comprises a pair of vertical walls 56, 57 adapted to slide upon the faces of adjacent blades 17. The walls 56, 57 are connected at their upper ends by a horizontal web. Cam faces 52 on the levers 49 engage rollers 53 on pins 60 mounted on brackets on the beam 10 and as the beam 12 descends relatively to the beam 10 the levers 49 are forced apart, thus tearing off the hull.
