Abstract

438,076. Wrapping-machines; packages. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Ivers-Lee Co. ; Newark, New Jersey, U.S.A.) July 26, 1934, No. 21817. [Class 94 (i)] In wrapping tablets, buttons, and other small articles in coated regenerated cellulosic sheet material, heat is applied to a portion of the wrapping to fuse the coating, and at the same time to oxidize and render brittle the cellulosic material to facilitate access to the contents by tearing. The articles may be packed in strip form as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the strip being manufactured as shown in Fig. 6. A band 1 of cellulosic material, and an insert 14, which may bear suitable directions, with tablets 2 spaced thereon, is fed towards a heated sealing roller 3 and a platen 4, which form it into a tube with a longitudinal seam 6, Fig. 4. The tube then passes between rollers 8 having heated crimping or pressing dies which unite the walls of the tube between the tablets and form a closure or bond in which the material is rendered brittle. To further promote ease of separation of the packages, the adhering portions are weakened by cutting out portions of the edges as at 10, 11, Fig. 2, by dies 13 co-operating with recesses 12. U.S.A.
