March 6, 1934, No. 4900 /35. Divided out of 434,664. [Class 135] In a diaphragm valve of the kind comprising a casing 31 with a straightthrough passage intersected by a barrier 29 shaped to form a seating for the diaphragm 12, the flexing of the diaphragm is confined to an annular portion adjacent to the margin thereof. For this purpose the centre parts of the compressor 15 and the seating 17 are formed with flat parallel faces. When the diaphragm is large in size the compressor 15 is provided with radial arms 19 shaped to support the diaphragm in its closed position and these arms are guided in grooves 23 in the cover formed by ridges 22 shaped at their lower ends 20 to support the diaphragm in the open position.
