Abstract

434,421. Electrical musical instruments. COMPTON ORGAN CO., Ltd., J., and MIDGLEY, A. H., Chase Road, Willesden, London. Feb. 27, 1934, No. 6303. [Class 88 (ii)] In apparatus for producing musical sounds, electrical oscillations are generated electrostatically between a frame or shallot and a vibrating tongue or the like oscillated by wind pressure, and are converted into sound waves by a loud -speaker or the like, the mechanical properties of the vibrator and its frame or shallot being adapted to provide sounds of prearranged pitch and timbre. In the Figure, different voltages are applied by the high tension battery d to the frames b. The reeds a may be vibrated in the usual way by wind pressure controlled from a keyboard; or they may be continuously vibrated by the wind pressure, electric switch-contacts being closed by keys in the circuits of the individual reeds. The reeds may be enclosed in a soundproof case, and may also be struck by small hammers.
