[Class 27] Coin-action weight, mechanical-connection and multiple coin.-In coin-freed vending apparatus adapted for operation by the simultaneous insertion of several coins differing in size and delivering an appropriate number of articles, a power reciprocated slide at the end of the coin insertion shoot feeds the coins one at a time to mechanism which adds their value and releases or actuates the vending apparatus. As shown, the inserted coins pass down a shoot 3 of rectangular cross-section, its short side being smaller than the diameter of the smallest coin to be used, and come to rest on a platform 18, in a stack facing the slide 15. In passing down the shoot, the coins operate contacts, (not shown), serving to close for a short period the circuit of an electric motor driving a shaft 9 carrying a cam disc 11 having a crank-pin 10. resiliently linked with the slide. As the slide is reciprocated, an edge 16 engages the coins in turn and feeds them through a side opening in the shoot into a discharge shoot 34, the coins being held in engagement with the slide by a spring-actuated arm 13 which relaxes its pressure during the backward stroke by engagement of a raised portion of the cam disc 11. As the coins are fed out of the shoot 3 they engage a spring actuated arm 25 carrying a pawl which steps forward a ratchet wheel 26 an amount appropriate to each coin. A disc 27 rotating with the ratchet wheel 26 has raised parts 28 engageable with an arm 30 which operates or releases the delivery mechanism, so that each time the appropriate coins have been fed past the arm 25 an article is delivered. Several modified dispositions of the shoot and mechanism are described. Returning coins.-The platform 18 is carried by a pivoted arm 19 and may be swung outwardly to release bent or other coins into a return shoot 33 by operation of an external knob.
