Abstract

421,216. Exercising-apparatus. TONER, J. B., 201, Shaftesbury Avenue, London. Oct. 11, 1933, No. 27961. [Class 132 (i)] In a hand-exercising apparatus of the kind in which the fingers are inserted in loops of flexible material attached to members relatively displaceable by mechanical means the loops have means such as slip buckles for tightening the bands on the fingers during the operation of the apparatus. As shown, on a square tube 1 are two slidable members 2, 3 attached to which are linen bands 5, 9 having loops provided with buckles 8, 12 for engagement with the fingers. The member 2 has a clamping screw 4. On one end of the tube 1 is fixed by means of a threaded rod 14 held at the other end of the tube by a washer 15 and nut 16 a member 13 having a threaded bush 17 with which engages a threaded spindle 18 at its outer end provided with a knob 19 and at its inner end rotatably mounted in the member 3 and prevented from longitudinal movement relative thereto by the collars 20. Rotation of the knob 19 stretches the fingers in the loops. In a modification, two arms are jointed together and an arcuate rack secured to one passes through a slot in the other arm and engages with a pinion mounted therein on a spindle provided with an operating knob and also carrying a ratchet against which is spring pressed a pawl which may be held off the ratchet by a catch. Linen bands provided with buckles are secured to the ends of the arms.
