[Class 44] [See also Group VII] A fastening device for articles of apparel, boots and shoes, or other materials required to be readily fastened and unfastened comprises fastener elements fixed on two stringer tapes and adapted to be brought into interlocking engagement by a slider moving thereover, which stringer tapes are laced to the boot flaps or other edges to be fastened. The stringers 1, 2 are fitted with lacing eyelets or hooks 5 and the topmost eyelets 6 may be so situated as to act as end stops for the slider 10. The stringers may be stiffened with insertion plates 14, 15 of a surface shape conforming to the shape of the article. The flaps to which the stringer tapes are laced may extend over and conceal the fastening elements. If the fastened edges are required to be completely separable the stringer tapes are respectively fitted with socket and plug end members, Figs. 15, 16; the plug member 24 after being threaded through the slider 27 and inserted in the socket member 26 is locked therein by an inwardly projecting pin 22 on a spring strip 20. The pin alternatively may be formed on a snap tab. The slider can be locked in any position by teeth on the usual pull tab engaging between the elements on the stringer tapes. The lowermost elements on the stringers may be cut away to permit entry of the plug 24. With the stringer tapes arranged beneath the flaps so as to be concealed a tabless slider is used having an apertured lug at the top end but not projecting above the front plate of the slider. This slider is secured by the lacing cord being threaded through the lug.
