Abstract

<PICT:0419929/III/1> <PICT:0419929/III/2> <PICT:0419929/III/3> An apparatus for sterilizing drinking-glasses &c. comprises a housing 17 containing an ultra-violet lamp 28 surrounded by a rotatable member 7 divided by partitions 21 into compartments in which the articles to be sterilized are placed. A door 23 is provided in the housing and a reflector 27 co-operates with the partitions to prevent the escape of the radiation when the door is open. Means are provided to prevent the opening of the door except when one of the compartments registers with it. The glasses are placed in racks (Fig. 4) comprising side members 41 carrying wires 42, 46, 47, 48 for supporting the glasses on their sides and wires 43, 45 for engaging the mouths and bottoms respectively of the glasses. The wires are so arranged as to provide for glasses of different sizes as shown in Fig. 2. The loaded racks are placed in the rotatable member so that the mouths of the glasses face the lamp and after sterilization is complete the racks are placed on a table with the mouths of the glasses downwards, pins 49 being provided to keep the glasses clear of the table.
