Abstract

419,379. Cathode ray tubes. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, and BENHAM, W. E., 88, The Ridgeway, Golders Green, both in London. May 12, 1933, No. 13882. [Class 39 (i).] An electrostatic deflector plate for a cathode ray tube is supported on a glass or like tube or pillar fused into the envelope at one end and carrying at the other end a plane face against which the plate lies flat. In the example shown, the plate 3 lies against the flared end 6 of the tube 5 which is sealed into the envelope 1. The plate is held against the flare 6 by the tension of the connecting wire 4 which is led down the tube and out through the seal 2. In a modification, the tube 5 is constricted and encloses the leading-in wire 4 forming a re-entrant pinch of the usual type. In another modification a split nickel cylinder is welded to the plate and is sprung inside the tube 5. To ensure correct positioning of the deflector plates a slidable ring is fitted over the cylindrical envelope and during the sealing of the plate supports the edges of the plate are kept in line with a pair of markings on opposite sides of the ring. After sealing, the accuracy of the construction is further checked by a gauge designed to pass between a pair of plates.
