Abstract

417,435. Cathode ray tubes. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, London.-(Assignees of Ogloblinsky, G. N. ; 22, Merrick Villa, Collingswood, New Jersey, U.S.A.) April 30, 1934, No. 13015. Convention date, April 29, 1933. [Class 39 (i).] In tubes for use in television the fluorescent screen 14 is formed on a flat wall 12 to which is applied a composite lens comprising a semispherical part 22 with its flat base parallel to the wall 12, the chamber 28 between being filled with oil which may circulate for cooling purposes. The refractive indices of the tube wall 10, 12, the oil and lens part 22 are substantially the same ; total reflection at the outer surface 30 of the wall is eliminated. A point source of light is formed by the tube at P ; the radius of curvature of the lens and the distances u1, u2 of the image P and virtual image P1 from the projecting lens 24 are such that P is at the aplanatic focus of the lens.
