Abstract
416,588. Road signals for controlling traffic. AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Strowger Works, RENSHAW, A. P. B., Brookwood, Alder Road, West Derby, and WRIGHT, D., 91, Hampstead Road, Elm Vale, all in Liverpool. March 16, 1933, No. 8028. [Class 118 (ii).] A traffic control system for three conditions of traffic flow is arranged so that right of way is given to one condition after it has been given to each of the other conditions, that is with three conditions A, B, C the cycle is A, B, A, C. Two embodiments are described, one in which a " bottte-neek " A (Fig. 4) is fed from two streams B and C, the cycle being arranged so that the A phase clears the bottle-neck after each of the other phases has been cut out and before the traffic flow is allowed to pass in the reverse direction and the other, Fig. 5, in which two subsidiary roads B and C join a main road A a short distance apart. The system may be timecontrolled or, as described in detail in the Specification, may be pad-operated. In the pad-operated system, if a call is received from C when the right of way is with B the cycle passes in normal sequence through A, but if a call is received from C with the cam shaft giving A its phase preceding the B phase, the " B " phase and the second " A " phase are stepped over. The general circuit operation is similar to that described in Specification 351,703. Specifications 360,924, 403,732, and 409,376 also are referred to.
