416,247. Exhaust - silencers. LUM, S., 2, Holly Crescent, Ripponden, Yorkshire. March 12, 1934, No. 1747. [Class 7 (ii).] A cylindrical casing A with inlet B and outlet C for the exhaust, is divided by a number of baffle plates D, inclined towards one another, into wedge-shaped compartments E. The plates are cut away to form communicating passages G so situated that the gases enter each compartment at the base or longest side and leave at the apex or shortest side. Gases driven into the angles H form a cushion and, during their subsequent flow to outlets G, cross the path of the remaining gases. The plates are inserted in saw-cuts and welded. In a modification, the casing is rectangular and a single zig-zag plate forms the baffles.
