Abstract

413,690. Fastenings for boots and shoes. COLE, T. H., 82A, Somers Road, Southsea, Hampshire. Dec. 14, 1932, Nos. 35442/32, 11228/33, and 15579/33. [Classes 17 (ii) and 43.] Boots and shoes are fastened by short lengths of coiled spring a, the ends of which lie over the eyelets in such a way as to resemble laces. The ends of the springs are anchored to the eyelets, or directly to the uppers, and one end may be detachable. Fig. 2 shows an anchoring member c engaging the extreme end portion of a coiled spring at a<1>, and provided with projections c<1> adapted to enter the end convolution or convolutions. Hook members, such as d, and anchor members may also be formed by suitably bending wire (which may be integral with the spring). A number of lengths of spring material may be coupled together, as by a tab member f, Fig. 1. Each fastener may comprise a number of lengths of spring material engaged in series, and relatively adjustable for length. Additional lengths of spring may be provided to extend between the hook members usually provided on a boot. The spring may be of flattened, semi-circular &c. cross-section, or of crimped formation. According to one of the Provisional Specifications, the springs may be fastened at each end to strips of spring steel &c. running the length of, and connected to, the eyelets or hooks.
