Abstract

413,061. Vacuum-cleaners. HOTPOINT ELECTRIC APPLIANCE CO., Ltd., 24, Newman Street, and INGLE, F., 84, Claud Road, Leyton, both in London. March 3, 1933, No. 6536. [Class 8 (i).] A floor-polishing device for attachment to a vacuum-cleaner comprises one or more brushes with bristles attached to a circular base provided with a groove on its periphery, around which passes a belt adapted to be driven from the motor spindle of the cleaner. In the construction shown, a platform 1 adapted to carry three circular brushes is detachably connected to the vacuum-cleaner by means of cylindrical projections 14 on the platform engaged by clips 11 on the nozzle of the cleaner. The clips normally support bearings for a rotary brush driven from the motor spindle 10. The platform 1 has also a pivoted catch 15 adapted to be engaged by a spring 16. A fringe of bristles 4 on the edge of the platform takes most of the weight of the apparatus. The brushes 5 have pulleys rotatably mounted on pins 6 which are vertically adjustable on the platform 1. An endless belt 18 which passes through an aperture on the platform and over guide pulleys 19 and the brush pulleys, is driven by the motor spindle. The belt is placed over a pulley 21 on a standard 20 when the floorpolishing device is detached from the cleaner. A single brush driven by the belt may be used to drive one or more other brushes.
