[Class 106 (ii).] An instrument for measuring the parallel co-ordinates of the points of a plane surface comprises two rules 20, 21 which are parallel to the axial directions of a co - ordinate system and whose edges intersect each other at one point, the surface 1 to be measured being displaceable relative to this point in directions parallel to the axes, the surface being connected to two sighting devices 18, 19 whose sighting lines are parallel to it and at right angles to the axes. A template 1 in which are to be drilled holes, the coordinates of which are given, is clamped by bolts 7 to a plate 4 carrying pivot bolts 8 for two equal parallel links 9. The other ends of the links are pivoted to an angle plate 11 connected by pivoted equal and parallel links 14 to pivots 15 on the table 2 of a drilling machine The edges 22, 23 of the scales when produced intersect at the point 3 which corresponds to the axis of the drill. Plates 4, 11 are mounted on balls so as to move freely over the table 2. Arms 16, 17 of the plate 4 carry telescopes or microscopes 18, 19 which may be focussed on the scales. The co-ordinate of the point 3 are first determined and then given the co-ordinate of various points on the template 1, these points can be successively brought to the position of the drill and the hole drilled. The co-ordinates of marked points of the surface may similarly be obtained.
