[Class 29.] A cooling device which may be interposed between the cutting - mechanism 1, 2, Fig. 2, and the wrapping - mechanism 4 of machines for the manufacture of wrapped sweets or other articles made from thermoplastic material, comprises a cylindrical chamber including parti-cylindrical shells 12, 13 mounted for lateral displacement on end frame members 25, 26 supporting the chamber, the shells being in spaced relation at one end of one diameter of the chamber to leave a passage 22. A rotating cooling drum 6 located in the chamber has on its periphery a plurality of longitudinal ribs 9<1> intersected by ribs 11 on the chamber, means being provided for moving the drum intermittently. An intermittently operated conveyer 3 moving in the passage 22 passes over the longitudinal channels between the ribs 9<1> on the drum to deposit articles therein. The arrangement is such that the conveyer is stationary when the drum is moving and vice versa, so that each article is carried round in each row of cells formed by the ribs 9<1> in turn. The shells 12, 13 may be semicylindrical, as shown, connected in spaced relation at the top of the end frames 25, 26 which carry radial arms 14, 141, 15, 15<1>, whose ends are forked to provide guides for pins 27, 271, 28, 281 on the shells.
