Abstract
398,069. Aeroplanes. ALBESSARD, J., 31, Rue du Laos, Paris. Dec. 13, 1932, No. 35352. [Class 4.] An aeroplane has tandem planes with the rear plane b divided and the halves arranged beyond the span of the front plane a as shown in Fig. 3 to act in the upward currents escaping without interference from the ends of the front plane, or the front plane a may be divided and the rear plane b arranged behind the gap, as shown in Fig. 4. Successive pairs of such planes may be arranged in tandem along a single fuselage or on twin fuselages provided the space between planes on the same fore-andaft line exceeds 3À5 times the chord of the preceding plane. The planes may also be at different levels. Among other arrangements described is a machine with four fuselages having a leading plane between the two inner fuselages, two planes arranged between the inner and outer fuselages and farther back, and two rearmost planes outside the outer fuselages. Another machine with four fuselages has three forward planes abreast with gaps between the inner and outer fuselages and two planes behind the gaps. Girders p connect the divided halves of the planes and fairings are pivoted around them to trail in the wind. Specifications 18109/13, 245,268, and 284,637, [all in Class 4, Aeronautics], are referred to.
