Abstract

The lustre of artificial yarns, bristles, horsehair, ribbons, &c. containing cellulose acetate or other organic esters or ethers of cellulose, is modified or reduced by treatment in the form of hanks or fabrics with aqueous suspensions or dispersions of water-insoluble soaps. The treatment is preferably carried out in the presence of a swelling agent for the cellulose derivative, for example, by adding acetone, acetic acid, thiocyanates or diacetone alcohol to the aqueous soap dispersion. Suitable soaps are zinc, magnesium and alkaline earth stearates, oleates, palmitates, cerotates, elaidates or carnaubates. The delustred threads &c. do not cut the guides &c., and they possess improved textile properties, for example, they knit closer and the fabrics are free from defects and the packages are less liable to collapse. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the addition of the insoluble soaps to spinning solutions used in the manufacture of artificial filaments, threads, &c., the soap being either dissolved in the spinning solution or dispersed therein as by fine grinding with water, or part of the spinning solution, or with the solvent, and to the spinning solution may also be added diethylene glycol and oils, and the solution may afterwards be filtered; and it refers to the production and treatment of filaments, yarns, &c. of viscose, cuprammonia cellulose or other reconstituted cellulose type. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
