Abstract
392,802. Sealing blood vessels. HAMMERS BERG, E. VON, Hatvan, Hungary. Sept. 21, 1932, No. 26275. [Class 81 (ii).] A clamp for sealing blood vessels is made of material harmless to the human system, for example nickel silver, or a material which can be absorbed, such as magnesium or galalith, and consists of two parts which, when pressed together, leave an interstice in which the closed blood vessel is situated without being cut through. Fig. 1 shows a press-button type of clamp, the matrix portion 1, which receives the die 2, having a rib 4 which presses the blood vessel 5 against the base of the recess 3 without puncturing it. Fig. 3 shows a resilient conical matrix 1 which receives a plug 2. The clamp halves are held in tweezers comprising pivotal legs 10, Fig. 5, each having a recess 14 to receive a lug 6 on the clamp. Slides 11 are moved forward by knobs 13 to pass through the lugs. The severed vessel is gripped by the tweezers when it is pressed between the clamp halves which are then released by moving back the slides 11. The clamp illustrated in Fig. 11 comprises parts having co-operating pegs and holes. The tweezers have right-angled jaws 17 and recesses 18 into which the ends of the pegs are pressed to form rivet heads. In a modification, Fig. 12, each leg 10 of the tweezers is formed with a chamber 19 having a pair of springs 20 which engage a recess 23 in a pin 24 of the clamp half. After clamping the blood vessel, the clamp is freed by applying pressure to slidable knobs 21. The surfaces of the clamps which contact with the blood vessels are preferably roughened or rippled.
