Abstract

387,960. Electro-massage apparatus. HORSFIELD, W. H., Allendale, Regents Park Road, Finchley, London. Sept. 17, 1932, No. 25945. [Class 81 (ii).] In a massage appliance comprising a hollow holder from which a number of electrodes in the form of metal balls yieldingly protrude, there is provided in the holder an easily yielding pad against which bear those parts of the balls projecting into the holder, so that the balls protrude under the action of the pad and can be easily moved inwardly and rotated. A cup 2 fits within the cup 1, the cavity housing a pad of felt or other absorbent material which may be dampened or medicated, and which urges outwardly the balls 10, mounted in sockets 9 of the metal base 7. The outer ends of the sockets are of reduced diameter. The disc 7 is connected to a plug socket 8, and a metal plate 4 on the cup 1 to a socket 6. The sockets receive electric lead plugs 12 and are mounted on the cup 2 to provide the projecting elements of a bayonet joint completed by slots in the cup 1. In use, the hand engages the plate 4 and the circuit is completed through the arm and body. In a modification, the cups are made entirely of insulating material and the balls are mounted in metal sockets connected in two groups to sockets 6 and 8 respectively. The appliance, when out of use, is housed in a compartment 24 of a case 15 carrying an induction coil 17, and cell 18 with switch 20. Sockets 25 are connected to the secondary of of the coil, while means 22 for varying the intensity of the current supplied may be provided.
