Abstract
383,563. Indexing. KITCAT, L. G., 14, Shand Street, Tooley Street, London. May 20, 1932, No. 14421. [Class 16.] In a catalogue, directory, or other book including an index sheet on which is printed the subject matter of the contents of the book, and corresponding thumb-cuts on the front edge of the book, the index sheet 1 is divided up into differently coloured sections 2 .. 5, the book being also divided into a corresponding number of parts 2a .. 5a, each part coloured on its fore-edge to correspond with the colour of the section of the index page to which it relates, and each coloured part of the fore-edge having a series of thumb-cuts 7 to facilitate the location of the desired information. The index sheet is divided by horizontal lines 6 into a number of spaces in which is printed the subject matter of the contents of the book, and the thumb-cuts 7 are arranged directly opposite the spaces, each set being arranged in a coloured part of the edge. The coloured edges 2a .. 5a may be arranged diagonally to correspond more closely with the direction of the thumbcuts to which they relate. The index page may be disposed at an intermediate position in or at either end of the book and may be provided with a projecting tab or a thumb-cut.
