Abstract
381,393. Plug couplings. CLAYTON, C. E. EVERY-, 51, Chancery Lane, London.- (Gottlieb, D. ; 40, Strassburger Strasse, Berlin.) Dec. 2,1931, No. 33446. [Class 38 (i).] A socket consists of a cylindrical piece of rolled sheet metal having one or more inwardly-projecting resilient parts, which are formed by making longitudinal cuts parallel to the axis of the socket and extending over the whole or a part of the length of the piece, and which are of sharper curvature about the axis than the body of the piece, so that each of the projecting parts makes a straight line contact with the plug. As shown in Fig. 2, one end 2 of a cylinder 1 is bent inwards so as to bear against the plug ; overlapping of the free end may be prevented by forming a rectangular part 5 on the end 2. The upper corner of the end 2 may be sloped so as to facilitate insertion of the plug. Both ends of the cylinder may be bent inwards. As shown in Fig. 9, a double T-shaped slit is made in the cylinder, and the flaps 11 thus formed are bent inwards ; the top corners of the flaps may be inclined backwards, and the ends 13 of the cylinder may be made of larger diameter than the middle part, so that when the socket is inserted in an inexpansible block or tube 14 the middle part has room for expansion. The socket has a tail connecting piece at the lower end, or the end may be formed as a plug. The bent flaps may be formed with circumferential slits to increase resiliency ; or a circumferentially running corrugation may be formed at the centre of the flap so that there is no resiliency at the ends.
