Abstract

373,649. Train axle counting apparatus. VEREINIGTE EISENBAHNSIGNALWERKE GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Feb. 17, 1931, No. 5064. Convention date, March 27, 1930. [Class 105.] An apparatus for counting axles in or out according to the direction of travel comprises relays 3, 4 which are energized over track contacts 5, 6 and serve to control relays 1, 2 by which a current pulse is given to the counting-in device E or counting-out device A depending on the direction of travel. An axle moving in the direction of the arrow first energizes the relay 3 only, then the relays 3, 4, and finally the relay 4 only. In the first interval, relav 3 closes contact 30 so that relay 1 is energized over back contact 42 of relay 4 ; in the second interval wherein relays 3, 4 are both energized this circuit is opened at contact 42 of relay 4 but relay 1 continues energized over front contact 41 of relay 4, its own front contact 12, and back contact 21 of relay 2 ; in the third interval front contact 40 of relay 4 and back contact 32 of relay 3 are closed and energize relay 2 so that the counting-in device E receives a pulse since the contact 10 of relay 1 opens when this latter relay 1 is de-energized by the opening of contact 21 when relay 2 is energized. Passage of an axle in the reverse direction operates the counting-out device A in a similar manner. Condensers are inserted across the relays and counting devices to prolong the impulses. The relays 3, 4 may be energized by the inductive impulses arising from the passage of the train.
