Abstract
371,084. Automatic regulation. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Feb. 13, 1931, No. 4585. Convention date, March 28, 1930. [Class 38 (iv).] A load current is maintained on the load 3, 4, Fig. I, being put into circuit as well as during operation by connecting a constant resistance 7 and a variator 6 in series and short-circuiting the constant resistance by means of a switch 8 when the variator 6 has reached the required temperature, the constant resistance 7 maintaining the current below a minimum admissible value during the period in which the variator is heating. The switch 8 may be closed by means of a time relay or a bimetallic strip. As shown in Fig. 4 the bimetallic strip 22, variator wire 23, and constant resistance 24 mav be mounted in one glass bulb, which is exhausted or filled with a gas such as nitrogen, hydrogen, or rare gas. Alternatively two of the elements may be arranged in one bulb and the third in a second bulb. The invention is applicable to mains supply units for radio receiving sets, amplifiers, &c.
