Abstract

368,777. Electrolytic furnaces. MAGNESIUM PRODUCTION CO., Ltd., 78, Hatton Garden, London. Dec. 4, 1930, No. 36626. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1929. [Class 39 (iii).] In the electrolysis of molten salts free from oxygen ions use is made of an anode comprising a carbon portion 1 immersed in the bath and a refractory insulating portion 3, resistant to oxidation, and reinforced by metallic rods 2 which serve as electrical conductors. The anode is supported on members 6 by means of a collar 4 and an intermediate asbestos ring 5. The portion 1 of the anode may be graphite or carbon in an amorphous form. Specification 208,714, [Class 39 (iii), Heating by electricity], is referred to.
