Abstract
Gas mixtures containing krypton and xenon are enriched in these constituents by thermal diffusion. The gas is passed through chambers of elongated rectangular form, the opposite sides of which are maintained at different temperatures, and the fraction withdrawn from the cooler side of the chamber is richer in krypton and xenon than the original mixture. According to an example a series of 40 chambers is used, each being 20 metres long, 10 cm. broad and 1 cm. deep. One of the wider sides of each chamber is maintained at 300 DEG C. and the other at 20 DEG C. The gas is passed through under a pressure of 120 atmospheres.
