Abstract
366,063. Valve accessories. KOPPERS CO., Koppers Building, Pittsburg, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Herrmann, L. S.; Koppers Building, Pittsburg, U.S.A.) Sept. 25, 1930, No. 28774. Convention date, Jan. 28. [Class 135.] Interconnecting two or more valve members.- Reversing valve mechanism for coke-oven regenerators comprises a plurality of reversing- boxes on the same side of the battery, the valve reversing mechanisms of the .boxes on opposite phases being of opposite hand and operated simultaneously by a single rod or cable. Fig. 6 shows two boxes 13, 47 connected to regenerators for heating alternatively gas or air, or two boxes 51, 54 for regenerators heating air only. The valve mechanisms of the boxes 13, 47 are similar but of opposite hand, as are those of the boxes 51, 54, and the mechanisms are all simultaneously operated through levers 25 by a cable 58, so that the boxes of each pair are maintained on opposite phases. The boxes 13, 45 comprise a producer gas valve 21, a waste gas valve 22, and an air valve 23, Fig. 6, the latter being in the form of a pivoted flap. The lever 25 operates through a lost-motion link 27 and an arm 28 a rock shaft 29 carrying a quadrant 30 from which the waste-gas valve 22 is suspended by a chain. An extension 32 of the lever 25 operates, through a lost-motion link 33 and arm 34, a rock-shaft 35. A clutch mounted on this arm carries a longitudinally movable pin 37 which can be made to engage either an arm 38 or an arm 44 ; in the first case the gas valve 21 is operated through link 39, arm 40, and rock-shaft 41 carrying a quadrant 42 from which the valve is suspended, and in the second case the air-valve 23 is operated. The lost-motion connections allow a short period to elapse between the closing of the gas or air valves and the opening of the waste gas valves. The valve mechanism of the boxes 51, 54 is similar to that of the boxes 13, 47, the gas valve with its actuating mechanism and the clutch being omitted.
