Abstract
363,549. Winding webs. VICTORYKIDDER PRINTING MACHINE CO., Ltd., Birkenhead, and WILSON, H. W. V., Roslyn, Bertram Drive, Meols, Cheshire. Feb. 13, 1931, No. 4583. [Class 100 (i).] In a rewinding-mechanism for webs of cloth, paper, fabric, &c., of the kind having a frictional drive, the rewinding-spindle is carried by arms moving in accordance with the diameter of the roll and automatically controlling a friction disc movable between two parallel friction wheels, whereby the speed of rotation of the rewinding-spindle is varied so as to maintain uniform tension in the web. The roll spindle 3 is carried on two arms 4 pivoted at 5, the weight of the roll, arms, &c. being just more than counterbalanced by a spring 20 attached to an arm 19. A rotatable stop 1 bears on the surface of the rewound material so that, as the diameter of the roll increases, the spindle 3 is forced downwards. On an arm 6 fixed to the spindle 3 is pivoted a rod 7, the other end of which is pivoted to an arm 8, which is pivoted at one end 9 to the framework and engages at the other end with a collar 10 fixed to a sliding bar 11. A rotating friction wheel 14 is mounted on the bar 11 and the edge of the wheel 14 engages with the inner faces of two discs 15, 16 mounted parallel but not coaxially on the frame. The disc 15 is driven at constant speed and the disc 16 is connected by spur gearing to the spindle 3. Thus, as the spindle 3 is depressed, the wheel 14 moves towards the centre of the disc 15 and towards the periphery of the disc 16 so that the speed of rotation of the spindle 3 is accordingly reduced.
