Abstract
359,211. Testing physical qualities of materials. HUNGARIAN RUBBER GOODS FACTORY, Ltd., 17, Kerepesi-Ut, Budapest. Oct. 22, 1930, No. 31791. Convention date, Oct. 26, 1929. [Class 106 (ii).] Comprises a method of measuring the plasticity of materials in which a test piece is drawn between surfaces moving at constant speed and the power necessary for the stretching is measured. In one form, the specimen is passed between two parallel rollers, one at least of which is driven and the surfaces of which are a less distance apart than the thickness of the specimen. In another form, the specimen is laid across two loosely mounted rollers and pushed between them by a prism-shaped ram the distance between which and a roller is less than the thickness of material. In a third form, Fig. 3, the specimen 1 is laid across two parallel rollers 2 loosely mounted between cheeks 5, and a prism-shaped ram 3 guided in the cheeks is brought down on the specimen, the ram and cheeks being connected by arms 7, 8 to the jaws 9 of a testing machine. A thermostat may surround the apparatus when the test is to be carried out at a constant temperature. The power necessary to deform the specimen shows a constant value as constant deformation takes place, and this is characteristic of the plasticity.
