[Class 20 (ii).] Tubular sectional irons are thickened at the parts of the sections remote from the neutral axis to provide increased resistance to stresses. Various sections are shown having thickened portions 1, 2 disposed at the positions of greatest stresses. It is stated that the parts which are subjected to the greatest stresses may be distanced farther apart instead of increasing the thickness of metal to attain the same result.
