349,975. Dynamo-electric machines. FLETCHER, G. H., 22, Glentilt Road, Ecclesall, Sheffield, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Bush House, Aldwych, London. March 5, 1930, No. 7233. [Class 35.] Coils and conductors ; commutators.-A winding for an armature having stepped or tapered slots is formed by cutting from a single bar which is stepped or tapered in cross section, two U-shaped blanks, one of which will nest within the other. The thickest and next to the thickest of the U-Iimbs are disposed in the first and second positions in a slot ard constitute one side of a pair of coils, and the thinnest and next to the thinnest occupy the fourth and third positions in another slot and constitute the other sides of the coils. Fig. 1 shows a strip which is cut at 4, 5, 6 to form two blanks. The limbs 7, 7a after being opened out and bent to the required shape constitute one coil and the limbs 8, 8a another and they are located in slots as shown in Fig. 3. Alternatively, the conductors may be connected to form a single coil of two turns. For connecting the coil ends to commutator risers, the ends 14a, 16a, Fig. 6, of conductors 14, 16 corresponding to the conductors 7, 8a of Fig. 3, are swaged downwards and the ends 15a, 17a of conductors 15, 17 corresponding to the conductors 8, 7a are swaged upwards to fit slots in the commutator necks or risers.
