Abstract

347,640. Conveying from working face ; frame rollers rope and portable railways. WELSH, A., Inkerman House, New Washington, Durham, WOOD, H. N., Willowdene Forest Hall, Northumberland, and RAW, G., Ravenswood, Low Fell, Durham. Jan. 29, 1930, No. 3119. [Classes 78 (iv), 78 (v), and 104 (ii).] A system for conveying coal from the working face in mines of the kind in which standard colliery tubs 12, Fig. 10, are taken into the workings and filled at the coal face includes a turn-out device, Fig. 1, designed to take the set or sets of tubs round from the working face into a gate or heading and to be moved forward bodily after a cut has been taken off the face and cleared, and haulage mechanism adapted to haul the tubs out to a landing from which they can be hauled further outbye by a main hauler. The haulage gear may comprise three drums 15,14,15 and ropes 13,11,13. The main haulage rope 11 and drum 14 are common to each set of tubs, the rope 11 being attached to the set in use. A separate tail rope 13 and drum 15 are provided for each set of tubs, the ropes 13 being permanently secured to the tubs. In a modification a four-drum hauler is provided, and the forward tub of each set is connected by a separate haulage rope to an independent haulage drum. In a further modification a two-drum hauler is provided and a main haulage rope and a tail rope serve each set of tubs alternately. In another modification separate two-drum haulers are provided so that the tail and haulage ropes of one set may be operated by one hauler independently of that operating the ropes of the other set of tubs. The turn-out device, Fig. 1, comprises a rear section a, a central section b, three curved-rail sections c, and three similar sections d. The rail track on the foremost section c, d connects with a track in a working, and a track on the section a connects with a track in a centre-gate. The central section b is provided with outwardly curved rails b<1>, two short outer rail parts c<1>, d<1>, cross-over rails c<3>, d<3>, and switch rails c<4>, d<4> connected at their free ends by a cross-bar h. Skid bars i are provided outside the inner curved rails e, bl and straight rails f of the sections c, d, b and a, respectively. The upper edge of these bars is in the same plane as the centres of the wheels of the tubs. On each section a, c, d the bars i are bolted to an angle-iron k, and on the section a, the brackets k, Fig. 5, are riveted to packing plates l bolted to the undersurface of the floor plate g. On the sections c, d each bar i, Fig. 4, rests on the floor plate g to which the brackets k are secured by bolts kl. A packing plate l<1> is secured to the underface of the plate g by bolts k<1>, m, the latter of which secures also a check rail n. The skid bars i are connected to the rails e, f by bolts v. Adjacent ends of plates g are supported by sleepers o which carry bracket devices for supporting rollers p, q for the ropes 11, 13. Each bracket device consists of a substantially Z-shaped plate r, Fig. 6, and a plate t which is bent so that the part t<1> is vertical and the parts t, t<2> are horizontal. A spindle u is supported by the plates r<1>, t, t<2> and is retained in position by an offset portion u<1> bolted to the plate r<1>. A deep haulagerope pulley p and a narrow tail-rope pulley q are mounted to turn on the spindle. Adjacent ends of skid bars i are secured to the plate t<1> by bolts x. Since the sleepers o at the ends of sections c, d have haulage and tail-rope pulleys only at the inner ends, the outer end of each of these sleepers has bolted to it an angle-iron y, Fig. 2, to which the adjacent ends of the outer rails are secured by bolts 1 passed through fish-plates z. Distancepieces 2 are mounted on the bolts. At each end of a sleeper o<3> near the rear end of a section a are mounted angle-iron brackets 4, 5, Fig. 8, which support a spindle 6 on which turns a tapered pulley 7. The threaded end of the spindle 6 rests in an open-ended slot in the bracket 5 and is formed with a collar 8 which bears against the inner surface of the bracket. Bars i are bolted to the brackets 4. The turn-out is moved to a new position by haulage tackle attached to it at g<1>.
