Abstract

347,540. Pencil holders. FEND, K., 68, Westliche, Pforzheim, Germany. July 2, 1930, No. 20055. [Class 146 (iii).] In pencils of the kind provided with a receptacle for lead refills, the rotatable feed device consists of two or more telescopic sleeves i, k, as shown in the Figure, which are rotatable in common. The outer sleeve i has a longitudinally fluted lining m, and the inner sleeve k has on its rear end a short, longitudinally fluted lining n engaging with the lining m. The lower end of the outer sleeve i is inwardly flanged and grips against the inner sleeve k ; its upper end is riveted through a spacer-ring o to a lead magazine p which projects into the hollow space of the inner sleeve k. The magazine p is covered by a cap q screwed on the outer sleeve i, and may be utilized for carrying a rubber in a cavity in its cover plate. A screw-threaded part r is soldered to the lower end of the inner sleeve k and is adapted to engage with a screw-threaded lining h which is soldered to a lining g, in turn soldered to the outer casing a of the pencil. The part r carries a tapered feed pin t which has a reduced diameter portion s at its rear end. A lead-holding sleeve u is longitudinally movable on the feed pin t, and its rear end v is pressed around the reduced portion s of the pin so that the pin cannot be pulled out. By turning the cap q the sleeves i, k are rotated, so that the screwed-part r is screwed backward or forward in the lining h and the lead w advanced or withdrawn accordingly. A conical part c having a central bore d which is internally screw-threaded in the front portion e is fitted in the front end b of the casing a. A guidepiece f for the lead point is screwed into the portion e of the conical part c and is provided with a bore x and a smaller bore y for the lead. A shoulder z thus formed serves as a stop for the front end of the lead-holding sleeve u, from which, on further turning the feeding device, the rest of the lead w is ejected by the advancing feed pin t. When it is desired to use longer leads, more than two telescopic sleeves may be provided.
