Abstract
344,897. Spray burners. SHELLMEX, Ltd., LUBBOCK, I., and JOYCE, J. R., St. Helen's Court, Gt. St. Helen's, London. Dec. 13, 1929, No. 38302. [Class 75 (i).] An atomizer for a liquid fuel burner has a conical whirl chamber 25, an annular chamber 21, and liquid ducts 24 leading from the annular chamber and tangential thereto formed in or in two flat discs. Fig. 1 shows a form comprising a body 1, a centrally bored rod 3 screwed therein, a plain disc 4 and an orificed disc 5 all clamped together by a nut 2, the discs 4, 5 being lapped and ground together to form a fluidtight joint. Fuel delivered through the central bore 13 passes through ports 14 and thence through grooves 22 to an annular groove 21 in the disc 5 which forms with the plain disc 4 a chamber from whence it passes through tangential grooves 24 to the conical whirl chamber 25. Fig. 6 shows a modification in which the whirl chamber 25 is formed in the upper disc while the annular groove 21, passages 22, and tangential passages 24 are formed in the lower plate. In another modification, Fig. 5, the lower plate is omitted and the sprayer formed of three members comprising a body 27, perforated for the passage of fuel, a disc 29 similar to the disc 5, Fig. 1, and a cap nut 28, fuel being delivered directly to the annular passage 21 by ports 31. The single disc 29 may be replaced by a double disc similar to Fig. 6 but formed with openings in the annular passage 21 registering with the ports 31.
