Abstract

342,757. Measuring instruments ; barometers. RYVES, P. M., 270, Torrero, Zaragoza, Spain. Nov. 5, 1929, No. 33684. [Class 106 (ii).] In measuring instruments with liquid-in-tube indicating means such as thermometers, barometers, &c., errors in reading due to parallax are avoided by providing two sets of aligning marks displaced from one another in the line of sight, the reading being obtained by aligning the indicator with the marks. In one form as shown applied to a thermometer the stem of the instrument, Fig. 1, has, in addition to the usual graduated scale a, a supplementary set of graduations b on the back. The graduations b may be arranged on a separate scale plate d as shown in Fig. 3, the plate being movable to facilitate zero adjustment. Instead of graduating the stem the graduations or aligning marks may be marked on opposite sides of a transparent plate e as shown in Fig. 5. The plate may be arranged at the side of the graduated stem and have sets of marks arbitrarily chosen or the marks may be formed by holes passing through the plate or by pins projecting from its surface.
