Abstract
341,618. Lifts. ETCHELLS, CONGDON, & MUIR, Ltd. and MUIR, F., Mill Street, Ancoats, Manchester. Nov. 15, 1929, No. 34886. [Class 78 (iii).] Lift cages and doors, locking and unlocking and operating.-In apparatus of the type wherein the gate latch engages with a rotary cam in the lock, the cam A has a deep notch a which can be engaged by a lateral projection b on the gate latch B, and two shallow notches a<1>, a<2> at different distances from its axis of rotation which, by engaging a runner c<1> on a lever C pivoted at c, cause a bar D<1> to make or break contact with terminals D. A lever E pivoted to the rocking lever C has a hole e at its lower end to receive a bolt F which thus locks the cam A against rotation and prevents withdrawal of the gate latch. The bolt F is completely withdrawn only when a lever G in the lift shaft is engaged by a runner on the lift, which occurs only when the lift is exactly opposite to the landing stage. If the lift is slightly above or below the landing stage an eccentric extension f<3> on the bolt F still engages the hole e and prevents the complete withdrawal of the gate latch. The gate latch has a heel b<2> which by engagement with the block K on the second rail of the gate tilts the latch into a nearly vertical position when the gate is opened.
