Abstract
341,139. Discharge apparatus. GRAMOPHONE CO., Ltd., Hayes, Middlesex, and MORGAN, R. B., 5, Cambridge Road, Hove, Sussex. Oct. 21, 1929, No. 31989. [Class 39 (i).] Electric discharge tube relays operating with gas ionization comprise an elongated cathode c heated to emit electrons, an anode d clear of the cathode and on an extension of its longitudinal axis, and means to establish a magnetic field parallel to the cathode between the cathode and anode. The space discharge proceeds from the outer surface of the cathode and is increased by the field. A cylindrical starting anode b may be connected first to the anode d and then to earth. The anode d is a disc normal to the axis of the cathode c. The envelope a may contain sufficient mercury to saturate it under operating conditions. To control the discharge, the field is varied by varying the current through an electromagnet or coil or by moving a permanent magnet between stops or moving part of the magnetic circuit of a magnet. Control of apparatus in synchronism by moving parts of machinery is referred to.
