339,635. Armstrong, J. J. V., (Bosch Akt.-Ges., R.). June 7, 1929. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 19, 1929]. Fluid-pressure.-In fluid-pressure brakes for trains of vehicles including a number of brake cylinders provided with a valve to vary the ratio of the free cross-sectional area of one of the brake pipes this valve is provided in the brake pipe between the source of pressure difference and one of the main control valves. By this means the trailer brakes may be arranged to come into action before the tractor brakes. The valve consists of a throttle 8 in the tractor brake pipe 2 operated from the driver's seat. The tractor brakes are operated by vacuum in a cylinder 4 controlled by a valve 6 and the trailer brakes are operated by a spring and released by vacuum in a cylinder 5 controlled by a valve 7. A modified throttle is shown comprising a conically ended stop screw.
