337,454. Houghton-Butcher Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Denniss, A. J., and Edwards, V. W. Aug. 2, 1929. Cameras, roll-film and spools therefor. - In film winding means for a roll-film camera, a hand-operated winder is provided with one or more pawls engaging ratchet teeth formed on one end of the film spool. The winder comprises a spindle 11, passing through the wall of the spool chamber and having a spigot 7 to receive the end of the spool 3. A plate mounted on the spigot has bent-up tongues 10 forming pawls which engage the teeth 4 on the spool 3. A second plate 5 secured to the wall inside the chamber has similar tongues 6 engaging the same teeth to prevent reverse rotation of the spool. The ratchet teeth may be sloped as shown, or may be cut square, and the spool may be provided also with a slot for use in a roll-film camera of ordinary type.
