Abstract
323,579. British Cotton Industry Research Association, Fargher, R. G., Galloway, L. D., and Probert, M. E. Oct. 18, 1928. Fungicides.-A process for protecting seeds and grain against mildew and fungi consists in treating them with an arylamide of a salicyclic acid, such as salicylanilide or its derivatives, for example, salicyl-ortho-anisidide and salicyl-ortho- (or para-) toluidide. Preferably the sodium salts of these compounds are used. In general the anilide and ortho-alkoxy-anilides and their alkali salts are more effective than other derivatives. Salicyl-arylamides substituted in the salicyclic nucleus, for example, 5-chloro-salicylanilide, #-resorcylic anilide, &c. may also be used. The solution may be in water when the sodium salt is used, or the aryl amide may be dissolved in a solution of caustic soda. The compound may be applied in the form of a suspension in water.
