Abstract

323,151. White, A. E., (Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co.). Feb. 19, 1929. Rolling.-Relates to the method of making plate or sheet glass in which a mass of glass is rolled between a roller and a drum of large diameter, as described in Specification 269,300. According to the invention, a blast of air or steam 15 is directed against the surface of the drum 1 in such a manner that the front edge 6 of a glass strip, as it emerges from between the roller 4 and drum 1, is lifted and slides easily on to the front edge 9 of the runway that conveys the strip to the leer. The air blast may be used also as a cooling-device while the rolling-operation is in progress.
