Addressing-machines.-In an addressing-machine, a controlling-device is provided consisting of a series of pins adapted to project through apertures in the stencil plate, yielding means normally holding the pins against axial movement relative to the reciprocating frame in which they are mounted. The stencils 3, which are formed with apertures for engagement by the selector pins 11, are fed along a guide 2, beneath a reciprocating frame carrying the pins. The frame consists of a base 52, to which an apertured guide 51 for the pins is secured, and two side members 54, 55 supporting guide bars 50 through which the pins 11 pass. The frame is adapted to be reciprocated by means of cams 99, 103 on a shaft 100. The bars 50 are formed with apertures for the pins and with aligned slots 69 for the reception of tongues 78 formed on head-pieces 77 on the pins, the engagement of the tongues and slots preventing rotation of the pins. The head-pieces 77 are adapted to contact with one or other of sets of fixed terminals 41, 46 secured on a stationary part of the machine when the reciprocating frame is lowered and the respective pin passes through one of the controlling-apertures in the stencil. The pins are adapted to be held against movement relatively to the frame except under the influence of a stencil by means of a spring- pressed pin 84 mounted in a frame 82 carried on top of the reciprocating frame. The frame 82 is hinged to the side member 55 of the reciprocating frame and is held in place by a spring-pressed pin engaging an aperture in a plate secured to. the guide-bars 50.
