Abstract

311,882. Hammond, F. W. March 29, 1928. Drawings to Specification. Metal, pipes and tubes.-In order to prevent the formation of organic or inorganic growths on the surface of water mains they are first scraped and cleaned and a smooth, coherent and impervious coating of colloidal particles of bitumen is deposited thereon by electrolysis from an aqueous or other suspension. The emulsion preferably contains 25 per cent by weight of pure petroleum bitumen and 0.25-0.5 per cent of alkali and 0.25 -0.5 per cent fatty acid to form a saponaceous emulgent.
