Strainers comprising grids and gratings.-In apparatus for straining sewage &c. comprising bars S kept clear by rakes R carried by chains passing round sprocket wheels, the axles B, A, of the sprocket wheels D, C, which guide the rakes into contact with the bars S, are arranged on the same horizontal level and above the highest level of the liquid. The wheels D at the approach end of the bars are larger than the wheels C, the bars being inclined accordingly. The ends G of the bars are turned upwards.
