Rotary mixers.-A machine for kneading, crush. ing, mixing, &c. comprise a rotatable container and one or more rollers yieldingly held against the inside wall and rotating about a shaft, or shafts parallel with the axis of rotation of the container; the surface of the rollers and inside of the container may be provided with co-operating teeth or corrugations. The container is detachable and may be fitted with a central discharge opening which may be fitted with a strainer. Fig. 1 shows a form in which a detachable container 1 is rotated by bevel gear and has a depending tube 2 fitting inside the shaft 3, the driving connection consisting of a pin 10 on a flange on the tube 2 engaging a hole in a flange on the shaft 3; the tube is closed by a removable plug 15. The roller 23 is loosely carried on a shaft 21 mounted on an arm 19 on a sleeve 17 under the influence of a spring 18 by means of which the roller is pressed into engagement with the side of the container; a fixed scraper 24 is provided opposite the roller. In another form the sides of the roller and container are curved and their lower halves may be provided with interengaging corrugations. The rollers may be urged by an axially-mounted spring downwards. A second roller may be provided and is mounted on an arm pivoted to the arm of the first roller, a compression spring being arranged between the arms. Fig. 7 shows a form in which the container is secured by a bayonetfastening 51, and the central plug 57 is operated by rotating a shaft 59 having a thread 60; in a modification the pins 53 engage behind resilient members replacing the bayonet slots.
