Stream-cutting machines; rolling machines.- Ornamental blocks or other clay products are formed by extruding plastic clay through a die and subjecting the extruded column to the action of a rotatable embossing roll prior to cutting. To prevent adherence of the roll to the column, it is vibrated by a pneumatic hammer; also the surface of the column is dried by air jets in advance of the roll. As shown, applied to a brick cutting machine, wherein an extruded column of clay is severed by oscillating, spaced cutting- wires, the column 4, supported by a belt 9, is passed under an embossing-roll 15. The roll 15 is mounted in arms 11 slidably supported in guides 10 in a block 7 and adjustable through a handwheel 25, screw 19 and yoke 17. The screw 19 works through a nut 22 which is held against rotation but has limited movement against a spring 24. A pneumatic hammer 26 acts on the roll 15 through the screw. Similar rolls 35 may be provided at the sides of the column. Adjustable air jets 36, supplied through a pipe 37, are interposed between the die and the rolls. The rolls are obtained by casting the embossing surface in a matrix obtained from a master pattern produced by making a mould of the original pattern in a plastic, non-adhesive substance.
