Abstract
299,120. Smith, W. T., Smith, W. A., and Wood, S. H. Aug. 9. 1927. Driving and speed-regulating.-In gramophones driven by a spring motor and provided with a fusee transmission for playing constant linear tracking-speed records, but. also capable of playing constant revolution records, two governors are provided, one geared to the motor to ensure constant tracking speed and the other to the turntable to ensure constant revolution, the governor controls being interconnected so that when one is operative the other is inoperative. Provision is also, made to prevent overwinding of the motor and the fusee, and for setting the winding. Fig. 1 shows the parts in extended relation, and Fig. 3 shows the assembled relation. The spring motor B drives the turntable A through a chain &c. c and fusee' C and gearing c<1>, c<2>, a one-way spring clutch on a spindle D, and gearing d, a<1>. A governor E is driven from the motor through gearing e<2>, e<1> e and is controlled by a brake lever f when a constant tracking-speed record is to be played. Another governor G is driven directly by gear g<1> from the turntable spindle and controlled by a brake lever f when a constant-revolution record is to be played. The brake levers are connected to control dials which provide for adjusting the speed and are interconnected by a link H, so that when one governor brake is in operative position the other is inoperative, and either can be made operative according to the type of record on the turntable. The motor can be wound up through a winding spindle k driving the fusee C through gear K, k<1>, a one-way clutch on shaft D<1>, and gear k<2>, k<3>. Excessive winding and also the extent can be controlled by a Geneva, stop mechanism M in a gear train w between the motor B and a setting dial N.
