Abstract

298,491. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Oct. 6, 1927, [Convention date]. Modifying physical properties of formed cellu. lose articles.-To facilitate the dyeing of the products, the treatment of hydrated cellulose, to reduce its tendency to swell, described in Speci. fication 278,684 is carried out in presence of an indifferent water-soluble salt and/or of a mordant, or alternatively is preceded by treatment with a mordant. For example, the hydrated cellulose, preferably artificial silk, may be treated in an aqueous bath containing formaldehyde, urea, and ammonia to which 2-20 per cent of common salt has been added. The salt may be washed out after the silk has been dried and the goods then washed in a soap bath and finished. The dyeing may be further facilitated by subjecting the material to a final feeble bleach.
