Abstract
295,241. Hawkins, W. J. May 5, 1927. Endless-chain and like carriers, apparatus with.-Apparatus for automatically displaying advertisements &c. comprises a casing 1 having a window 8, behind which is seen an endless band formed of slats 2, connected by flexible strips 3 and passing over drums &c. 6 intermittently actuated by ratchet mechanism 10 the pawl 11 of which is on an upstanding rod 12 engaging at its lower end with a horizontal or substantially horizontal cam plate 15 having an inclined track 14 on its upper side. The plate 15 carries a screen 18 opposite the cam 14 to obscure the light from a lamp 27 during movement of the band. The rod 12 has a friction roller or ball 13 at its bottom end. The drums 6 are flatsided, and may have band-engaging teeth, and the slats 2 are in the form of apertured envelopes or pockets, the apertures being covered, if desired, by a translucent member which allows the advertisement slip within to be seen only when illuminated from the rear. Guide members 9 are situated within the band to shield it from the working parts. Vertical reflectors inclined to one another may be arranged one on each side of the lamp 27.
