Abstract

292,322. Hollingworth, E., (Crompton & Knowles Loom Works). May 13, 1927. Warp beams for silk looms are provided with false heads 22 having smooth bored hubs furnished with guide studs or screws 25 with inner cylindrical ends 26 engaging compound spiral grooves 20, 21 of coarse gauze in a steel tube or barrel 10, whereby the distance apart of the false heads may be adjusted. To secure these in position, screws or studs 28 threaded into the hub and extending into recesses 27 have ball ends connected to concave-faced shoes 30, which can thus be moved into clamping position. The shoes are longer than the diameter of the usual holes 33 or longitudinal slots receiving the groups W of warp ends, these holes &c. being thus effectively bridged by the shoes. The tube has the usual gudgeons 12 and friction heads 11 for receiving the flexible bands &c. of the let off devices. In a modification, the barrel may be screw threaded externally and the false head hubs be threaded to engage therewith, clamping shoes of softer material than the barrel being used, so as not to injure the screw threads thereon.
